Assisted reproduction, cosmetic surgery and cardiology, among the principal services included in health tourism

Assisted reproduction, cosmetic and plastic surgery and cardiology are among the main services included in health tourism in Spain, according to a report commissioned by the Spanish Secretariat of State for Tourism and the School for Industrial Organisation (EOI). The conclusions were reached through the analysis of various studies (OECD, Deloitte, McKinsey) as well as the offering published in the principal facilitators.

Also included in the health tourism services are oncology, urology, traumatology, ophthalmology, dentistry, rehabilitation, nutrition and natural, anti-ageing and cosmetic therapies, wellness (spas and alternative therapies), care for dependent persons, rehabilitation and residential services. Our country excludes organ transplants, obstetrics and vaccination programmes from the potential health tourism offering.

The Government’s National Integral Tourism Plan (2012-2015) includes the health product as a usable resource within the territory, one that can contribute to drive forward and improve tourism in Spain, particularly international tourism.

The sector’s great potential for development and positive expectations will be showcased at FITUR HEALTH, a section promoted jointly with the Spaincares cluster, in Hall 8 of the exhibition venue, which concentrates the trade show’s business offering, and will have its own exhibition space to receive the proposals of the participating companies; a forum for analysis and debate, with professional workshops and a venue for meetings and B2B appointments, with a broad selection of national and international buyers invited by the trade show (facilitators and brokers, insurance companies, specialised agencies and medical prescribers in the countries of origin).
