    Madrid ranks fourth in the world's business tourism cities, second in Europe as a shopping destination, and eighth in Europe in tourist spending

    Madrid, 18 October 2013.- Driving business tourism is a major goal for IFEMA, which receives more than 2.3 million visitors a year to the trade fairs and conferences held at Feria de Madrid. More than 50% of these visitors come from outside Madrid, and 12% from other countries, representing huge potential in terms of impact on the region's economy, especially in retail and other services.

    - The promotion of Madrid as a business tourism destination is the goal of the new programme IFEMA PLUS, geared to encouraging greater attendance at trade fairs and longer stays for attendees, thus capitalising on their impact on the tourism and commercial offer of the city. More than 100 Madrid institutions, bodies and establishments are in on the project
    - With more than 2 million visitors, and an annual offer of 80 trade fairs and nearly 500 events, IFEMA makes a significant contribution to Madrid's fourth place in the world ranking of cities for congresses

    Spain's Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime García–Legaz, the Chairman of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Arturo Fernández, and the CEO of IFEMA, Luis Eduardo Cortés, signed a collaboration agreement to boost the internationalisation of Madrid's businesses, at a ceremony that was jointly presided over by the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio.
