Feria de Madrid, the venue each year for over 500 events attended by more than 2.3 million visitors, now has a new high-capacity Wi-Fi network which provides events, in particular the major international congresses it stages, with a system that allows more than 6,000 users to connect to the internet simultaneously. This represents a major step forward in IFEMA's connectivity. The network, which was rolled out ahead of the EULAR medical congress last June and can handle 790 GB of traffic in high-density scenarios, significantly improves the quality of IFEMA's offering.
Implementing the necessary technology for the Wi-Fi solution within a tight timeframe represented a challenge for IFEMA and involved an expansion of the infrastructure based on CISCO technology to safeguard service quality. This expansion included providing line coverage for the more than 112,500 metres of gross surface area occupied by the halls for this congress. A total of 153 Access Points were used, increasing the available bandwidth for the service to 400 Mbps symmetrical to meet the event's requirements.
This new Wi-Fi solution significantly enhances IFEMA's connectivity and will therefore improve its capacity to attract major international congresses in a highly competitive market.
The infrastructure expansion also included the installation of five free WiFi connection points, subject to consumption tranches, for visitors to the trade fairs staged by IFEMA. These are situated in the north and south entrances, the Avenida Central meeting point, the Club Feria and Business Centre and the Press Club. The rest of the site has pay IFEMA PREMIUM Wi-Fi coverage for exhibitors and visitors, with price reductions having been made to facilitate access.
