IFEMA AND THE MADRID CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRADE UNDER WHICH THEIR COMMERCIAL OFFICES ARE TO BE INTEGRATED INTO THE STATE NETWORK ABROAD

Spain's Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime García–Legaz, the Chairman of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Arturo Fernández, and the CEO of IFEMA, Luis Eduardo Cortés, signed a collaboration agreement to boost the internationalisation of Madrid's businesses, at a ceremony that was jointly presided over by the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio.

The agreement comes under a policy promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, whereby offices held by Spain's Autonomous Communities and their Institutions abroad are to be integrated into the State Network. Its main goals, as Spain's Secretary of State for Trade pointed out, are chiefly to save money and resources, offer larger and more efficient access to the State's services and improve Spain's image by streamlining and optimising its public resources.

The aim behind this agreement, which provides for the integration of commercial offices abroad shared by IFEMA and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce in strategic places such as Sao Paolo (Brazil), Shanghai (China), Miami (USA) and Mexico City (Mexico), is to boost the internationalisation of Madrid's business network in all the markets in which Spain has commercial offices.

For IFEMA, one of whose goals is to internationalise its fairs as business and foreign-market access platforms for participating companies, this agreement represents a strong boost to the work it has been carrying out and allocating considerable resources to, such as its international buyers' programmes, by attracting a good number of wholesalers to its fairs from the main markets of interest for the various economic sectors meeting up at Feria de Madrid. According to its Chairman, Luis Eduardo Cortés, “this collaboration with Spain's foreign network is a smart decision from central government, and a decisive step forward in the policies we, as institutions, have been implementing to encourage this leap to overseas markets for our businesses, by fostering team work with greater possibilities for success and helping to strengthen competitiveness and brand Spain”. ”. A good example of this are the international projects IFEMA will be holding abroad over the coming days, MATELEC EIBT China, in Shanghai from 27 to 29 March and SICUR Latinoamérica, in Santiago, Chile, from 3 to 5 April, as well as MOTORTEC Automechanika Ibérica, the result of a partnership with Messe Frankfurt, which takes place in Madrid from 13 to 16 March.

With Madrid and its institutions now on board, 10 of Spain's autonomous communities have already signed agreements to integrate their commercial offices abroad, under which they will be given the impetus of Spain's hundred or so commercial offices around the world.
