Initial forecasts for the evolution of tourism in 2010 are optimistic; in fact, the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is expecting growth of between 3% and 4% by year end. These expectations are backed by the results obtained during the first two months of the year, in which international tourism arrivals grew by 7% worldwide, in addition to the 2% already recorded in the last quarter of 2009.

FITUR organised a prize-giving ceremony to hand over the prizes won at the last edition of the Trade Fair. The Tourism Fair took place from 20 to 24 January 2010. The event was chaired by Antonio Bernabé, managing director of TURESPAÑA and Antonio Nieto Magro, general manager of Tourism for the Madrid Region and José Manuel Maciñeiras, chairman of the jury for the Best Stand prize. José Mª Álvarez del Manzano, chairman of the executive committee, Luis Eduardo Cortés, chairman of the governing board, Fermín Lucas, managing director of Ifema and Ana Larrañaga, managing director of FITUR, handed over the prizes.
At the ceremony, representatives of the prize winners received a trophy for having the best stands at FITURE or the best active tourism products at the exhibition, as well as the Tribuna Vila Fradera, which recognises a previously unpublished academic work on the sector.

The awards ceremony of the 15th edition of the contest for the Best Active Tourism Project, organised by FITUR and the magazine Aire Libre, has taken place, with diplomas handed out to the winners. The jury, which met on 19 January, announced its decision, choosing Tourism-Cultural Walks: “Along the paths of Cantabria” and “Cantabria on the path – Jacobean Holy Year 2010”, as Overall Winner of this competition and also winner of the Culture section. This programme was presented by the Department for Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Regional Government of Cantabria.
