Martín Fiz, world and European marathon champion and the first athlete in the world to win, in the masters category, the world’s six main marathons, the World Marathon Majors, will be the Road Safety Ambassador for the 9th Shop Run that will take place on the 10 March in Valdebebas, Madrid, within the framework of MOTORTEC AUTOMECHANIKA MADRID 2019, to be held from 13 to 16 March at Feria de Madrid. IFEMA is the organiser of the 15th edition of Spain’s Leading International Trade Fair for the Automotive Industry, targeting trade visitors from the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and North Africa.

Martín Fiz will celebrate it by running the 10 kilometres of this classic race which, sponsored by the “socially responsible brands of the automotive aftermarket” promotes the social role of shop professionals and the benefits of responsible vehicle maintenance, for their contribution to Road Safety, the Economy and the Environment. Just a few weeks ago Martín Fiz beat the world record on 10 kilometres for over-55s. The athlete will also be the “soul” of the 2019 edition of the Guide “Running among cars” with advice for runners and responsible drivers, produced by the Madrid Association of Shops and the national association CONEPA, in collaboration with Stop Accidentes.

Martín Fiz thus joins other renowned athletes such as Chema Martínez, Jesús España, Diana Martín, Vanesa Veiga or Zuriñe Rodríguez, who were previously Road Safety Ambassadors for the Shop Run. These are all athletics professionals who have stood out thanks to their commitment and help in promoting good habits in vehicle maintenance, driving and road use that contribute to improving road safety.

“Running among cars”

Martín Fiz, who himself was involved in an accident in 2018 while he was training, is aware of the need for an organised coexistence between runners and vehicles on our roads. Committed to road safety, he has joined the update of “Running among cars”, the Guide to the Shop Run that insists both on the need for drivers to take care of maintaining their vehicles so that, if necessary, they will properly respond in the event of a possible accident, and on the publicising of advice for everyday athletes using roads and pathways, who zoom along them.

News on the 9th Shop Run

In its last edition, the Shop Run, preparatory race for the popular EDP Rock’n’Roll Madrid Marathon, had 2,500 runners participating, 500 of whom were children. This year, the run will have a new distance, 15 kilometres, which will allow the better-prepared runners to measure their physical condition for the upcoming 42 kilometres of the Madrid Marathon. The new layout is added to the traditional 5 and 10 km distances; the “handbike” and athletics chairs categories, and a new edition of the Peque Carreras Mutua Madrileña, which will again provide children with the chance to enjoy a morning of sports with the family. All of the proceeds from the children’s runs will go to the social inclusion programs of Avanza ONG.

The 9th Shop Run also increases its media presence with its inclusion in the MAPOM Running League, an initiative created by the Sports Association MAPOM, which is fully committed to promoting healthy habits and sports.

The 9th Shop Run is held within the framework of MOTORTEC AUTOMECHANIKA MADRID 2019 and it is made possible thanks to the main sponsorship of Mutua Madrileña, and of the Socially Responsible Brands of the automotive aftermarket that share its same values: 1.001 Talleres, TÜV SÜD ATISAE, Armin, BG Products, Bosch, Bosch Car Service, Cecauto, CertifiedFirst, EuroTaller, InterTaller, MANN FILTER, Philips, Reynasa, Serca-SPG Talleres, Shell, Sigaus and Signus. The Shop Run will again be backed by government organisations such as the General Directorate of Traffic, DGT; the Spanish Association of Organisations Collaborating with the Government for Technical Vehicle Inspection, AECA-ITV; Stop Accidentes; Avanza ONG and the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.
